Doug’s Superfood Sugar-Free Smoothie. A Total Meal in a Glass

Superfood Smoothie

Do smoothies taste better when someone else makes them for you? I think so.

I’m definitely more of a juicer than a smoothie maker. It certainly isn’t because I feel that juicing is more healthy than smoothie making; I just find it so much easier to make a juice that is low in fruit sugar rather than a smoothie that is low in fruit sugar. In the past, I found that making smoothies really required extra added sugar like honey — especially if you’re adding in a lot of greens or healthy superfoods.

But, that certainly was my opinion until I had my friend, Doug’s, Superfood Sugar-Free Smoothie: A total meal in a glass if you ask me.

Superfood Smoothie

I’ve mention Doug on the blog once before. My honey and I get to see him and his lovely wife, Michelle, once a year, when our friends from British Columbia swoop into town for a family visit.

Hanging out with this crew is always a pleasure. They love to talk health, healing, and wellness, just as much as I do. And, I find the yearly visits really motivating to keep fighting the fight back to health. And, I love that Doug has a Vitamix that’s 35 years old now! Amazing, right?

So, back to this smoothie….

It’s jam-packed with superfoods! Do you know what those are? Well…David Wolfe has a great book about them, that I would recommend. It’s called Superfoods, and it describes all of the foods that contain the highest levels of nutrients like antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.

Getting superfoods into your diet is a great way to saturate your body with these healing nutrients in their natural forms. And, Doug’s smoothie is packed with these little goodies, and it tastes WONDERFUL! And, did I mention that it only contains sugar from fruit? (It makes this sugar-free girl smile!)

Wow! I’m inspired to try this for sure. Thank you for this. Haven’t heard of chlorella and it’s benefits before.

Chlorella is really nice. So is spirulina powder — it’s a blue-green algae that is a complete source of plant-based protein (and, it tastes good : )
